New ArcGIS Enterprise GIS Portal
Pittsylvania County launched a new online GIS portal built on ArcGIS Enterprise, a full GIS software package through ESRI. With a streamlined appearance, improved data accuracy, and more available data layers, this system serves a wide range of users who need parcel and geographic data for the county.
Previously, Pittsylvania County contracted with a third-party firm for its parcel viewer. With the new portal, county staff can now build, develop, and maintain their own web application. When data is updated on the county end, it updates almost instantaneously on the GIS site, rather than waiting for a third-party vendor to push updates.
Helpful map layers include data on each of the 50,000-plus parcels in Pittsylvania County, utility provider service areas, school zones for elementary, middle, and high schools, fire and EMS stations and districts, and convenience center locations. Tips for use: the more layers you enable, the slower the site loads. The site pulls from your browser cache, so it may load slowly the first time you visit.
Access the new GIS portal through the New GIS Portal page on the Pittsylvania County website. For parcel ownership and assessment data, or address, zoning, or permit information, contact the appropriate department directly rather than relying solely on the GIS portal.
