Patrick County has general reassessments every six years. The last general reassessment was effective January 1, 2021. Elderly and Handicapped Real Estate Tax Relief is available for residents aged 65 and older or those who are 100% disabled. Household gross income must be $32,000 or less and financial net worth $100,000 or less. If approved, the taxpayer can receive up to a $500 real estate tax exemption. All applications are due by March 1 each year.

Local Tax Rates
Patrick County's current local tax rates are: Real Estate $0.73 per $100 fair market value; Personal Property $1.71 per $100 fair market value; Machinery and Tools $1.71 per $100 fair market value.
Town of Stuart has separate tax rates: Real Estate $0.172 per $100 fair market value; Personal Property $0.33 per $100 fair market value; Machinery and Tools $0.33 per $100 fair market value.
Virginia localities are authorized to levy taxes on real property, including land and buildings. All assessments must be 100% of fair market value under state law. A tax may also be levied on tangible personal property of businesses and individuals, including motor vehicles, business furniture and equipment, and motorized vehicles such as boats and campers.
Machinery and tools are segregated for local taxation under the Code of Virginia. The rate of taxation may be no higher than that imposed on other classes of tangible personal property. A Prepared Food and Beverage Tax was adopted effective April 1, 2020, at 4% for county taxes. The county also imposes a Transient Occupancy Tax of 5%.
