The Commissioner of the Revenue is a constitutional officer elected by the citizens of King George County. The office is responsible for maintaining a record of the current assessment on all real property within the county. Key duties include updating parcel information and assessment changes for billing, transferring property as recorded by Deed or Will in the Clerk of the Circuit Court's office, and generating the Annual Real Estate Land Book.
The 2025 Real Estate Tax Rate is $0.68 per $100.00 of the total assessed value. This rate applies to all real property in King George County based on the assessed value set by the Commissioner's office. The Commissioner also updates addresses of property owners as changes occur.

King George County Real Estate Tax Information
The Commissioner's Office in King George County maintains the current assessment on all real property. Parcel information and assessment changes are updated for billing purposes as changes occur throughout the year. Property transfers recorded at the Circuit Court Clerk's office trigger updates in the commissioner's records.
The 2025 Real Estate Tax Rate is $0.68 per $100.00 of assessed value. Real estate taxes in King George County are due in two installments. The first half is due June 5 and the second half is due December 5. Late payments are subject to penalties and interest as required by state law.
For personal property taxes, King George County breaks the bill into two payments per year. The first half payment is due June 5 and the second half is due December 5. The 2025 tax rate for personal property is $3.25 per $100 of assessed value. Vehicle values are based on the clean trade-in value as listed in the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Used Car Guide published in January of the current tax year.
As of January 1, 2024, King George County prorates personal property taxes to include motor vehicles, trailers, and semi-trailers. Proration lets residents pay for personal property taxes only for the duration of their residency in the county during the tax year.
Personal property tax relief is available for qualified passenger cars, motorcycles, and pickup or panel trucks under 10,001 pounds registered gross weight that are owned or leased by an individual and not used for business purposes. The personal property tax relief percentage for 2025 is 24% on the first $20,000 of the vehicle's NADA value.

A vehicle registered in another state but normally garaged or parked in King George County is still subject to local tax. Failure to register the vehicle in King George County after 30 days results in a $250 fine per vehicle.
King George County Circuit Court Land Records
The Circuit Court Clerk's office is the official custodian of all land records in King George County. The Land Records Division is set up for the public to do their own research. Staff will assist in getting you started if needed. All documents presented for recording must be original signed and notarized instruments. No faxed copies are accepted. E-recording is also available.
King George County requires a Virginia Land Record Cover Sheet for land record recordings. The tax map number or parcel ID must appear on the first page of each recorded document. The consideration and assessed values must also be stated.
Free Access to Public Index: The Circuit Court Clerk provides online access to the land records index. This allows access to the index only. You cannot view the actual recorded document images through this free tool. To view the actual documents, you need a subscription or an in-person visit.
Internet Access to Circuit Court Land Records and Documents is available through a paid annual subscription only. The fee is $550.00 per user if paid in one lump sum. If paid monthly over the year, the total fee is $600.00 per user. An application must be approved before access is granted.
The county also offers a Property Recordation Notification service. Register your name for free to receive email alerts whenever a document with that name is filed in the county's land records. This service helps guard against deed fraud and unauthorized property transfers.
All recorded land documents in King George County are governed by Title 55.1 of the Virginia Code. Deeds must be recorded under ยง 55.1-600 to be valid against third parties.
