Floyd County Commissioner of the Revenue

The Commissioner of the Revenue is an elected constitutional officer who serves a four-year term. The office is located at 201 E Main St Suite 3, Floyd, VA 24091 and handles all real estate ownership records and tax assessments for the county.

Floyd County Property Tax Rates and Assessments

Real estate in Floyd County is assessed at 100 percent of fair market value. The Board of Supervisors sets reassessment dates. Beginning in the 2004 taxable year, annual real estate taxes are paid in two equal semi-annual installments.

Current tax rates adopted for the 2025 tax year are as follows. Real estate is taxed at $0.44 per $100 of assessed value. Personal property is taxed at $3.20 per $100. Mobile homes are taxed at the same rate as real estate at $0.44 per $100. Business furniture, fixtures, and equipment are taxed at $3.20 per $100. Machinery and tools are taxed at $1.55 per $100. Merchants capital is taxed at $3.50 per $100.

The first installment of real estate tax is due on or before June 26 of the tax year. The second installment is due on or before December 5. New buildings that are substantially complete or fit for use before November 1 of the year completed will be assessed when complete. This rule does not apply in years when a general reassessment is conducted, except for Class Four industrial and commercial buildings.

Tax relief is available to residents who are 65 or older or permanently and totally disabled, have a household gross income of $50,000 or less, and have net worth of $175,000 or less. Applications are available January 1 through April 1 each year.
