Buchanan County Property Records

Buchanan County property records are filed with the Circuit Court Clerk in Grundy, Virginia, who is the official keeper of all land instruments recorded in the county. The clerk's office holds deeds, deeds of trust, plats, liens, and other real estate documents. Because of the county's coal and mineral resources, severance records are also part of the property record landscape here. Assessment and tax data is handled by the Commissioner of Revenue and the Treasurer. You can search some parcel and GIS data online. Recorded deeds are accessible through the Virginia courts portal at vacourts.gov. In-person and mail access are both available at the clerk's office. This page covers how to find Buchanan County property records.

Buchanan County GIS Property Map

Buchanan County maintains a public GIS portal at webgis.net/va/buchanan, developed and hosted by Hurt and Proffitt through WebGIS.net. The site was last updated in March 2026. The GIS portal includes map layers for property parcels, roads, and other county infrastructure data.

The information on the GIS site is furnished by government and private industry sources and is believed to be accurate, but accuracy is not guaranteed. Mapping information is a representation of various data sources and is not a substitute for information obtained from an accurate land survey. Do not rely on the GIS portal alone when doing a title search or making a boundary determination.

The portal provides a quick visual reference for parcels in Buchanan County. You can look up property by parcel number or general location to get the map reference needed to search records at the courthouse. The GIS system is particularly useful given Buchanan County's terrain, where parcel boundaries and mineral rights can be complex due to the coal and gas industry.
