Botetourt County Real Estate Tax Records

Real estate taxes in Botetourt County are assessed as of January 1 each year and billed annually. The due date is November 1. Virginia law requires that you be responsible for the timely payment of taxes on your property whether or not you receive a bill. Do not wait for a statement to arrive before paying.

A 10% late payment penalty applies if taxes are not paid on time. The penalty structure is: 2% is added at midnight five days after the due date, and an additional 8% is added on any unpaid balance 30 days later, bringing the total penalty to 10%. Failure to receive a tax bill does not excuse the penalty.

If you have a question about the amount of an assessment, contact the Commissioner of Revenue at 540-928-2050. Notify the commissioner of any ownership change or billing address update. Taxes are a lien on the property itself, not the person, so the Treasurer cannot adjust the amount shown on the tax bill.

Payment options include eChecks or credit card online, in-person at the Treasurer's Office at 57 S. Center Dr., Daleville, VA 24083 (Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM), by mail to P.O. Box 587, Daleville, VA 24083, at First Bank or Bank of Botetourt locations, or by automatic bank draft. The Treasurer's phone number is 540-928-2030.
